Hi, I’m Valerie Aspiring Web Developer & Tech Enthusiast
“From public service to pixels, this is my journey into code.”

About Me

“Welcome to My Corner of The Web!”
This portfolio reflects my journey into tech, showcasing the skills I’m developing, the projects I’ve completed, and the challenges I’ve tackled along the way. While I’m new to programming, I’m eager to learn and excited about the possibilities ahead as I grow into this new career path.
Before diving into web development, I spent 29 plus years with the Royal Bahamas Police Force, primarily in the Information Technology department and I later transitioned into public safety. Through these experiences, I developed a strong foundation in tools like MS SQL, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, and InDesign—skills that sharpened my eye for detail and enhanced my ability to solve problems creatively.
Right now, I’m learning to work with a variety of modern tools and technologies, including: Go High-level | Zapier | WordPress | HTML & CSS | JavaScript | React | MySQL
This site is a work in progress—just like me. Stay tuned for future projects and updates as I continue to learn, build, and grow as a developer.
Thanks for stopping by!

Story Time

“Chasing a Dream: My Journey from Law Enforcement to Learning Code”
After spending nearly 30 years in law enforcement, I decided it was time to finally chase a dream I’ve had for a long time; learning how to code. I have always been interested in technology, especially during my time working in the IT department. Even after transitioning unto public safety work following my retirement, that interest never faded. However, I didn’t know where to start or how to make the transition.

One day, while watching YouTube, I came across a Devslopes video. What really caught my attention was the fact that it’s a hands-on program where you actually get paid while you learn. That was a huge deal for me. It showed me that not only would I be gaining valuable skills, but I could also support myself while doing it. It made the whole idea of switching careers feel way more doable.
I joined Devslopes Academy in April 2025 because I was ready to start a new chapter, one where I could finally turn my long-time interest in coding into a real career. My goal is to become a full-stack developer, build real-world projects, and gain the confidence to grow in the tech industry. I know the journey won’t be easy, but after nearly three decades in law enforcement, I’m no stranger to hard work and problem-solving. In fact, many of the skills I’ve developed over the years, like staying calm under pressure, attention to detail, and collaborating with a team, are proving to be just as valuable in the world of tech.
For me, this isn’t just about switching jobs. It’s about finally doing something I’ve always wanted to do. Devslopes has given me that chance, to grow, learn, and step into a whole new world—and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
